Abstract: Projects in Europe and Australia have collected good data on archaeological employment, allowing comparisons to be made between countries and over time; there is now potential for a Discovering the Archaeologists of the Americas, looking at professional archaeology in every country in South, Central, Caribbean and North America.
Studies like these could form an ongoing macro-project, a Discovering the Archaeologists of the World, supporting professional archaeological practice and education globally. Potentially both a central repository and a guide, providing advice and access to shared resources of examples and expertise, this paper will open discussion on how this could be developed.
